Find Your Reason to be Happy

When we age we tend to depend too much on people around us for our happiness. But others are busy in their lives and are not able to give us the attention, we feel sad and disappointed. It’s very important to find a reason to keep oneself busy and purposeful. When we have purpose and we do something that gives us a sense of meaning that becomes the reason for our happiness. So find that reason or purpose to keep you active and engaged.

Set Your Fitness Goals

For emotional health it’s very important to take care of your physical and mental wellness too. You need to stay active to keep those happy hormones active throughout the day.

So just find time to go out for a walk to increase heart and lung fitness. Manage conditions such as hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, joint and muscular pain or stiffness, and diabetes.

Do yoga for flexibility and balance, as well as the heart, bones, muscles and mind.

Practice meditation for stability, balance and mindfulness. Meditation is well documented to help regulate cortisol, anxiety, chronic pain and many illnesses. Meditation improves mood positively.

Socializing And Connecting Positively

Aging brings isolation, stress, mood swings. It’s very important to have social ties that are proven to lower blood pressure and boost longevity. Talking to another person for just ten minutes per day improves memory and mood. Stronger social ties creates a positive effect on your mood, mind and health. It helps reduce the way you respond to stress. These social meetups are a way to create meaning and reduce isolation.

The higher the level of social interaction, the greater the cognitive functioning. Harvard researchers found that people with multiple social ties — such as old age social groups, participating in community activities, or social groups, regular visits or phone calls with family and friends — were less likely to experience cognitive decline than those with no social ties. Most studies agree: Be in touch with six people per week (yes, texting counts).

Nourish Yourself with Good Food

To be healthy and to live a long life, eat just a little of everything with relish. Eat a wide variety of foods, especially fruits and vegetables, eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day. Eat only fresh plant based food. Go to bed early, get up early, and then go out for a walk. Keep moving, and see 100 years will come to you.

Last but not the least, the secret to happiness in life is to keep your mind free of stress, follow the mantra of laugh and let go and just be a giver.. It’s that time of life where we need to forgive others, keep our expectations limited. Keeping the mind active. The people who live the longest have two dispositional traits in common: a positive attitude and a high degree of emotional awareness.

Important: According to a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) study of mental health in older adults aged 55+, it is estimated that 20% of seniors experience some type of mental health concern. The most common conditions include anxiety, severe cognitive impairment and mood disorders, such as depression or bipolar depression.
