Lakadong Turmeric Super Spice is a special variety of turmeric from a place called ‘Lakadong’, in Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya.

Lakadong Turmeric is known for its beautiful aroma, colour and its medicinal qualities, as the Curcumin content in Lakadong Turmeric is between 7 to 12% (last tested in 2020), which is one of the highest, as against 2 to 3% in most varieties of turmeric.

In between the months of March-April the farmers prepare the land to sow the rhizomes that would yield Lakadong’ s Golden Dirt.

Lakadong turmeric has a bright, golden yellow hue that can only come from the high curcumin content. This gives the food that rich and appealing deep yellow colour that gourmets appreciate. Other turmeric types, by comparison, give the food a not so appealing, even dull, appearance.

Among the turmeric cultivars of different growing regions in Meghalaya, Lakadong turmeric is reported to have the highest curcumin content (6.8%-7.3%) in a study conducted by Kanjilal et al., (2002) and Chandra et al., (2005).
