The Sanskrit name for poppy is Khaskhas Phala. It is commonly known by various names such as white poppy, aphium and posta. Its botanical name is Papaver somniferum. Seeds and flowers of this herb are used for medicinal purposes.

Poppy seeds or Khus khus, is rich in omega -6 fatty acids and dietary fibers and trace minerals: manganese (1 tablespoon – 8 % manganese), calcium, thiamine, various phytochemicals and Vitamin B.
