Agni, the digestive fire is vital to good digestion, overall health, and well-being.
In Ayurveda, the concept of Agni is your digestive fire. Agni’s primary functions are digestion, absorption, assimilation, and the transformation of food into energy. In Ayurveda, digestion affects not only the food you eat but also your mental capacities and energy levels.

Agni- Digestive Fire and Good Health
Agni is responsible for digesting food into nutrients and helping process feelings, emotions, and thoughts. An important concept in Ayurveda that goes along with Agni is Ama.
Ama-Toxins
Ama is understood as toxins or undigested food, emotions, and thoughts that get stored in our fat cells. Ama (toxins) depletes Agni (your digestive fire), which leads to gained weight, food allergies, and low energy levels.
Ama clogs the digestive tracts, visceral organs, and even arteries. This build-up of Ama depletes Agni, and a depleted Agni cannot properly digest, assimilate, or absorb food. Thus creating more Ama.

Role of Agni for Good Health
Agni is among the critical factors in determining Good Health. On the contrary, ama is the culprit of all diseases. Excessive production of Ama can lead to the impairment of Agni. Thus with wrong eating habits and lifestyle issues, a vicious cycle of impaired Agni and the production of Ama is established.
Right Way of Eating as Per Ayurveda lays certain guidelines which need to be followed for holistic health and wellness.
As per Ayurveda, food is supposed to be consumed at a fixed time. Our body is not made to eat anything at any time. The time needs to be in accordance with the timing of JATHAR AGNI.
Learn about Eating the Right Way!
Eat Well and with Mindfulness (i.e., paying attention to your food, on purpose, moment by moment, without judgment) is an approach to food that focuses on an individual’s five senses awareness to their experience of the food. Jathara Agni (the central digestive fire) resides primarily in the stomach, but it feeds and nourishes Agni throughout the body. So when we are truly present with the food we eat—when we give our full attention to the act of being nourished—Agni is strengthened everywhere in the body.
