What is Emotional Health
Emotional health is an important aspect of overall health and well-being. People who are emotionally healthy are in control of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. They are able to cope with life’s challenges. They know how to manage their negative feelings: stress, anger, and sadness.
Good signs of Emotional Balance and Well-being!
You are in control with your emotions – you can identify your own emotions and are able to appropriately respond to other people’s feelings. You know when you are angry, sad, afraid and excited. You acknowledge that you feel a certain way without becoming overwhelmed and you know how to communicate to your partner. You also are aware how to come over these negative emotions.
You rebound from Failure – You are aware failure is absolutely an unavoidable part of life. But being emotionally healthy people you can ignore the “you can’t do it” gut reaction and stop the negative self-talk. Instead, always look at what is in control, reevaluate the situation and put in more effort. They then plan better and try a different approach.
You believe there’s a reason for everything – The most emotionally healthy people find a meaning in the traumatic events that happen in their life. It means that while they are grieving they are also adapting and searching for ways to recognize not only what they lost, but also what they have gained.
You like yourself – You have learnt to like yourself even in your worst moment. You avoid the self-criticism and the negative thoughts. You know when to stop kicking yourself when you’re already down. You have compassion for yourself. You try to be encouraging and supportive and feel good about who you are.
You see the big picture – Realize that every action has a reaction as well as a consequence. Pausing to consider how your actions are going to affect you and your situation in the future is a good sign of emotional health.
How can a person be emotionally healthy?
Be a skilled communicator – Learn to communicate with the intent to hear and see the other side. When disagreements arise, focus on problem-solving rather than fault-finding. When things do not go your way, express your feelings thoughtfully. Don’t pout or tantrum or think it’s the other person’s job to “figure it out”.
Here are ways to stay emotionally healthy:
- Take care of your physical health.
- Exercise, and get some fresh air.
- Take care of yourself.
- Spend time with people whose company you enjoy.
- Pursue a hobby, or a new activity.
- Manage your stress.
- Accept yourself and believe in yourself.
- Count your blessings.
The goals of emotional wellness include those things that keep you mentally and emotionally healthy so you can live your life without being controlled by your emotions. It refers to being aware of all of the different human emotions and understanding how you feel, think, and behave when experiencing them.
