The lungs are the primary excretory organ in fat burning. In fact, according to the study, when 10 kg of fat in the form of triglycerides is lost, 8.4 kg of that fat is exhaled through the lungs.

Fat

Fat is one of the three main macronutrients, along with carbohydrate and protein. Fats, also known as triglycerides, are esters of three fatty acid chains and the alcohol glycerol.

When fats break down, the hydrogen and oxygen combine to form water (H2O), which is excreted through the urine, sweat, and feces. The remaining carbon is breathed out of the body as carbon dioxide (CO2).

Triglycerides are the type of fat stored on the body that is carried into the blood by the foods we eat. Triglycerides are made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.

Now interesting fact is that 4/5ths of the triglyceride molecule is broken down into carbon dioxide, and only 1/5th is broken down into water. This leaves the lion’s share (4/5ths) of the body’s fat to be removed by breathing out CO2.

So there is no doubt that deep exhalations during exercise play an important role in the removal of CO2. Improving the efficiency of breathing may play an important role in the excretion of CO2 (fat) during exercise.

Breathing Helps Burn Fat Faster

Studies have shown that there is a significant increase in CO2 released during nose breathing (nasal breathing) compared to mouth breathing. Last but not the least, along with right breathing and exercise, your calorie check would play an important role in your weight loss. These metabolic activities also generate heat, which helps maintain your body temperature, and waste products. These waste products — water and carbon dioxide — are excreted in your urine and sweat or exhaled from your lungs.
